The ES150P powered subwoofer is just the ticket for bringing your home theater system to life. It performs like a pro, with technology developed by the JBL Professional division. Equipped with a tried-and-true JBL PolyPlas™ woofer, the ES150P delivers unsurpassed low-frequency performance. Special effects in your favorite movies are loud and clear, without unwanted distortion or boominess. A powerful amplifier delivers up to 500 watts of peak power. LFE- and line-level inputs provide maximum connection flexibility. And convenient level and crossover-frequency controls, and a phase switch let you tailor the ES150P's performance to your room's acoustics. Available in a black or cherry finish with a black grille. entry-level subwoofer speakers that won’t strain your wallet and provide you with plenty of value. The JBL ES150P is a 10-inch, front-firing woofer with a black ash finish. If you don’t already own a subwoofer, this one is a solid first step to upgrading your home entertainment center.
The JBL ES150P does not have as good of a dynamic frequency range compared to the best subwoofers we reviewed. A wide frequency range means that your subwoofer can handle a wider range of sounds and tones with clarity. This subwoofer has a frequency range between 27Hz and 150Hz; the best home theater subwoofers on our lineup can hit below 25Hz and above 180Hz.
This subwoofer is uniquely taller than it is wide, with a tapered body that is wider at the front. The construction quality is a little flimsy, and it does not seem as durable as it should be. Additionally, it is heavier than you would expect for a sub that is not built to last more than five years.
We favor a 12-inch woofer design in comparison with a 10-inch. A 10-inch speaker typically doesn’t have the frequency response nor does it handle lower frequencies as well as a 12-inch subwoofer. Owners of JBL ES150P home subwoofers occasionally complain that the sound quality is poor, and that the sub buzzes when handling the bass frequencies, which is certainly not ideal.
The JBL ES150P home subwoofer has fewer features than other powered subwoofers. It does have rotary dials to control the volume level and crossover frequency, which you can set anywhere between 50Hz and 150Hz. The JBL ES150P has a strong power output but the flimsy design will likely discourage you from pushing its limits. The sub only has one set of terminals to connect it to your sound system. You can either run a single line from an LFE sub out on your audio/video receiver to the left-channel LFE input or connect it to the AV receiver with a stereo line out to the left and right line inputs on the sub. By using the LFE option, you will get the best performance from your subwoofer.
The JBL ES150P home theater subwoofer is covered by a five-year warranty for the speaker and a one-year warranty for the electronic components.
